How we Build Community
Living in a community to us means working within it. That is why our aim is to build a school community that actively reaches out and partners with others whenever and however possible.
In the recent past, that means working with approximately 20+ members and leaders, seeking those who listen, observe and prepare. We achieve success by leading others within the community using our own advice and philosophy: Observe, Prepare, Empower, Lead.
Moving into the future, we are excited to work with everyone to empower their voices as we build the OPEL community and embolden our future leaders to create a platform that serves the next generation in Taoyuan. This page hopes to not only highlight how we plan to lead within the community, but also how we plan to include everyone in the process!

Board of Directors

The board of trustees supports the work of the school and provides organization-wide mission-based leadership to ensure the school’s health and welfare both now as well as planning for and into the future. Our ideal version of the board of directors would represent members of community organizations, community leaders, parents, teachers, and other interested community members to enhance our vision of a community-led institution.
School Leadership

The school leadership committee provides day-to-day mission-based leadership and works closely with, and provides requested guidance to, the various other school leadership committees to ensure smooth and transparent school-wide governance.
Staff Committee

The staff committee represents and advocates for both teaching and non-teaching staff wellbeing and relevant workplace policy. This promotes healthy workplace practices to boost staff retention, professional development, wellbeing, and workplace safety that provide stability and positive examples of leadership to students.
Family / Home Committee

As an important member of our collaborative community we invite parents into the leadership space to represent and advocate for parents to add their voice to our mission-driven leadership and promote positive change. This promotes transparency and allows parents a direct and concrete way to further support their children’s success within the school environment.
Student Leadership

The student council provides opportunities for students to live the school’s mission through representing and advocating for their fellow students and their community. This level of power gives a platform for students to voice their opinions on student-related policies (such as dress codes) and organize activities that establish and maintain school traditions, impacting the unique character of the school.
